Don’t we all crave velvety, clear, nourished lips? Wouldn’t it be ideal to have the kind of jaw-droppingly flawless smile you see on your favorite celebrity? But how do you achieve that kind of skin health for your lips? It’s actually not that hard to do; all it takes is some tender, loving care and consistency. Neverminded the fact that face masks currently hide our mouths when we step out. We still watch out for makeup sales so we can buy the hottest new lip shade in the market. And why not? With smudge-proof matte lip ink, beauty and safety can go hand in hand. And yet… you don’t want that creamy ink cracking and splitting on dry lips, do you? Nope, that’s not ideal, so here’s a short, sweet, and sure-to-work guide to great lip care whether it’s winter, summer, or raining cats and dogs.
Tip 1 - Exfoliate with a homemade scrub
Exfoliation is the key to getting rid of dead skin and revealing a fresh, soft layer of skin that’s an ideal canvas for lipstick. Exfoliating with a homemade scrub is recommended because that way, you get to choose the ingredients that go into your scrub. Simply combine healthy ingredients like honey and coconut oil with an agent like sugar, and you will have the perfect scrub (and perfect kisser) in no time.
Tip 2 - Protect your lips from the weather
Winter can leave them dry, and summer can leave them parched or even scorched. Both of these are no-no's, so moisturize using aloe Vera or a lip balm with SPF 15. This way, you’ll keep the skin on your lips protected from the elements and you’ll slow down its ageing process. It’s a win-win.
Tip 3 - Stay hydrated and nourished
Remember how we said at the start that we all crave nourished lips? Well, hydrating them is one great way to achieve just that. How do you hydrate your lips? Um… by hydrating yourself! To further nourish your kisser, start including vitamin E-rich foods in your diet and start using vitamin E-rich lip products.
Tip 4 - Embrace good-for-your-lips ingredients
It’s not just vitamin E that will do your lips a lot of good. Vitamin C is another great nourishing ingredient to have in your foods and products from the point of view of healthy lips. Strawberries and citrus fruits are great sources of vitamin C (They’re delicious too!).
Tip 5 - Pay attention to your before-bed routine
It is so, so, so important to wash off your makeup before bed so as to let your pores breathe and rest during the night. You can boost your lip health through the night by applying milk or ghee (clarified butter) to your lips before you tuck yourself in. Simply applying lip balm before you sleep will also help.
Tip 6 - Quit licking those lips
It’s the surest way to dry them further, increasing the risk of cuts and sores, so quit licking and start moisturizing with a healthy oil (such as castor oil, coconut oil, almond oil, or peppermint oil) or an SPF-rich lip balm/lip cream.
Tip 7 - Steer clear of any and all toxins
Beauty very often stems from good health. This applies to your lips as well, so protect them from harsh chemicals, tobacco, poor air, and bad oral hygiene. Keep your lips clean, and your smile is sure to be one that stops people right in their tracks.
Now that you have some handy tricks to better that pout, go on, go out, and smile your brightest!
